Congratulations to the choirs of Detroit Country Day Middle and Upper School for their outstanding performances at District Choral Festival last week. Choirs from grades 6 through 12 travelled to Hartland, Clarkston, and Walled Lake to perform for certified choral adjudicators as well as visiting schools from around the region.

In addition to Sight Reading, their performance was scored by 3 performance judges and combined to a 120 point scale and assigned an overall rating.

Our Men’s Choir gave a terrific performance and earned 28 points out of 30 in sight reading to come just 2 points shy of a First Division Rating. Treble Choir earned a First Division rating with a perfect score from 2 performance judges. Women’s Choir earned a First Division Rating, and qualified for State Choral Festival in April. Our Concert Choir also earned a First Division rating, with perfect scores from 3 of the 4 judges, and will also perform at State Choral Festival in April.

Congratulations again to the DCDS choirs!

During the spring series of entrepreneur club competitions, the Detroit Country Day Entrepreneur Club posted winning results.

In the University of Michigan Start Up High School competition held April 8, Alex Mettler '19, Connor McGeorge '19, and Ryan Findling '19, pitched their ideas to panel of 6 judges and earned the victory podium for their innovative entrepreneurial concepts. Alex took top honors with his Great Lakes Initiative – a biodegradable lure design that would ensure the environmental safety of the Great Lakes. Ryan and Connor pitched their idea of a new business, “NonProfit Promos” which provides nonprofit organizations an easy and affordable promotional product ordering system. Both proposals earned significant monetary ‘seed’ awards from M Powered Entrepreneurship. Ryan and Connor also entered their idea in the Detroit Entrepreneurship Network Final Showcase and earned finalist honors for their submission.

Start-up High School was founded in 2013 with the primary goal of expanding high school students’ creativity and innovation and inspiring them to get involved in entrepreneurship. Hundreds of high school students submit their unique startup ideas to compete in a national video pitch challenge.
