Visiting Artist Inspires Students at the Village Campus

Thursday, May 9 the Village Campus art classes welcomed a special visitor, Colin McConnell. He is a Detroit, photographer, artist, author and all around good human being! The children enjoyed his book, The Land of Shapes, Circle Adopts a Pet. The children drew their own shaped character and pet that they can share with today after school. A fun fact we learned about our visitor was that when he was in kindergarten he told his kindergarten teacher that he wanted to be a writer and she told him he could be a writer. She endorsed his first book and was at his book signing, along with his second grade, third grade, fourth grade and two high school teachers!

This day was made possible with a grant request from Friends of the Arts. It was a wonderful day and the children appreciated sharing their drawings with Colin and their friends.
