On Friday, May 18, 53 fifth grades from Harms Elementary school in Detroit arrived at DCDS at 9:00 AM for a fun-filled day. The members of the Community Service Club along with the club advisors, Lisa Lupa and L'Meese Greaney, planned a field day for Harms' students. The students from both schools really enjoy the field day and for many of the Harms Elementary students it is the only field trip during their time in elementary school.

The fifth graders from Harms started their day with a tour of the Upper School, then rotated through several outdoor activities including soccer, bucket races, bounce houses, kickball, and parachute games. The DCDS students organized snacks and take-home goodie bags for our guests and Stefanie Smith worked to provide an amazing lunch, courtesy of Noodles & Co. One Love Wiffle generously provided funding to provide Harms Elementary with two Chromebooks to aid in research projects, testing, and student needs. Mrs. Waldon of Harms described DCDS as the Harms Elementary "guardian angels."

Hosting the Harms students on an annual basis is truly a community effort and a pillar of the Community Service Club. The value of the the day's events creates a lasting impact on the elementary school students as well as the DCDS students who worked to provide an exciting field day.

They spend two weeks learning the techniques, four days sampling the Rouge River flowing through our property, and a few hours on a boat on the Detroit River. On the Rouge River, every student performs each test, but on the boat, they each are assigned tests and work in teams.
